The Prize is provided from a Fund raised mainly in Anglesey and London to perpetuate the memory of the late Right Honourable Sir Ellis Jones Ellis Griffith MA KC PC (1860-1926), a former Member of Parliament representing the County of Anglesey.

Eligibility

  • Work to have been published within the preceding three calendar years
  • Awarded to a person (excluding any to whom the Prize has already been awarded) who has, in the opinion of three appointed judges, produced the best work in Welsh on authors writing in Welsh, or on their work, or on Welsh artists or Welsh craftsmen, or on their work.

 

Additional Information

  • The Prize shall consist of books to the approximate value of £50, together with a money prize of the approximate value of £110, subject to available funds
  • If the judges report that a reasonable standard of merit has not been attained, the Prize shall be withheld and the income for the year added to the capital fund.
